  1. …a guardian of creativity, a protector of your team, a dedicated rider and sponsor of others. You were a warm, lovely man and a joy to be with. We will miss you pal.

  2. It has always been a pleasure to work with Rudi on all projects. He was always a patient and wise man. My deepest sympathy to his family.

  3. Utterly shocking. A true gent, a pleasure to talk to, work with, drink with. Always smiling, always positive… a kind man who I considered a friend, not just a colleague. My heart goes out to his family.

  4. …when u know that you will never forget this smile! Took this photo of Rudi and Matthew in Cannes.

  5. Rudi and I go way back and always had a good laugh together. You will be sorely missed, my friend. A true legend, family man, friend and gentleman. Wishing his family much strength through this very difficult time. Saturday will be tough, as I will be celebrating my son’s Bar mitzvah and mourning Rudi’s passing at the same time. Feeling sad.

  6. My memories are of a young Rudi at Movie Makers in the 90’s. He was so much fun to work with and be around – a great sense of humor and a kind and gentle man My sincere condolences to his family and friends and colleagues xxx

  7. Rudi, a true gentleman, he taught me all that was good about service production and was a huge influence in my early days of producing. So many laughs and memories. We have lost a truly shining light and my thoughts are with his family.

  8. I was lucky enough to meet Rudi through my work and whilst I never actually produced work with him I did have the odd lunch and occasional beer with him over the years. I was totally shocked to hear the awful news that he passed away on January 1st and wanted to send my condolences. A lovelier, more gentle, gracious or just straight up good fella you will never meet. I cannot imagine your pain and suffering and whilst there is nothing I can say or do that will make that go away I wanted you to know (I am sure you do anyway) how highly thought of and respected he was in our business. He will be sorely missed.
    All my love

  9. So very sad to learn of Rudi’s passing. A more supportive, loyal and warm-hearted person it would be hard to find. Everyone I introduced to Rudi fell in love with the man. He was just so damned likeable. The Great Pub In The Sky’s gain is our tragic loss. My thoughts are with his family and the tight-knit crew he worked with at Stillking. Will miss you friend.

  11. A gentle soul. Generous with his time, spirit and energy. Always full of so much love and affection for his family – his eyes would twinkle when the subject switched to talking of children and his family. One of the good people. Honest, kind and well thought of by everyone.
    Rudi, you will be missed.
Deepest sympathy goes out to his family and closest friends.

  20. It’s not a slight on any other producers or companies but I always wish when shooting anywhere in the world that it could be like when I have shot with Rudi in Cape Town. He was a warm, generous and very calming presence and it was always great to see how he and Charlie and Noeleen and Mon Cheri and all the team bonded and had fun together. Great dinners in a well chosen restaurant or just a beer at the Parata , it was always a pleasure to work and hang out with you Rudi.
I also always remember you telling me how very important your family was to you and I sort of understood… and then I had my own children and I often think of your words and hope I can live up to that .For me you are synonymous with enjoying work and life and you always will be . Much love to the Stillking family and of course to your wife and children . I cannot imagine their grief. I look forward to having a beer in your honour with the guys when I’m next in Cape Town.

  21. No words can describe the pain and lost of a great colleague & friend and true professional, I am still in deep shock.
Thinking of Rudi’s family and sending you a lot of strength and love in this unbearable time.

    All my love, Nicki XXXX

  23. Sending so much love to Rudi’s family, his friends and the team at Stillking.
Rudi was an amazing producer, and was always held in high regard by his clients, colleagues and his crew.
He could make me guffaw out loud and had my utmost respect. A true gentleman.

  24. My ou boetie – sal jou nooit vergeet nie!!!! Baie lief vir jou en gaan jou so baie mis!! Liefde Cilie

  25. Dear Rudi, you were one of the sweetest people I had the pleasure of knowing while I lived in Cape Town working at MIA all those years ago. You were always smiling and so kind to everyone. 31. RIP Rudi – did not know you personally that well – but knew you as an industry player and your memory will live on as being one of the leaders and most respected people in the Cape Town film industry – condolences to all of his colleagues at Stilking and his family xxx

  32. Too hard to know what to write, but many people have already described Rudi so very well on these pages. Hopefully it will be some small comfort in years to come for Leigh, Hannah and Mathew to remember just how many people around the world loved and respected Rudi. He really was a very good man. I can’t believe he’s gone.

  33. Very saddened to hear this news. My thoughts are with all Rudi´s family, friends and colleagues. And for Rudi one picture of his favorite place at Camps Bay, where we last met. Rest in peace old friend.

  34. Thoughts and condolences go out to Rudi’s family, colleagues and the Cape Town film community at large for your loss. Gone too soon.
You will always be remembered for your diligence at work, your charity in play, your thoughtfulness with friends, your wonderfully cheeky smile and your ever present kindness.
Always to be remembered. You will be sorely missed.

  35. Words can’t express how shocked and saddened I am to hear of Rudi’s passing. When Leigh called with the terrible news on January 1st, the world had stopped I though I just had a very bad dream and it still has not sunk in. I can not imagine how difficult this time is for Leigh, Hannah, Matthew and Rudi’s Mother, but the vast support and love Rudi’s family is getting from friends and colleagues from all around the world shows just how much Rudi was loved and admired by everyone. He was the most generous, kind and happy soul that will always live in our hearts.
I will miss you greatly Rudi, rest in peace.

    Pavla

  36. Days after learning about Rudi’s passing I still can’t believe this. Just can’t. My sincerest condolences to his family and friends. If you knew Rudi – you couldn’t help but admire him. Every email we exchanged, every chat we had – it was a pure pleasure. Rest in peace Rudi

  37. I worked with Rudi on a number of jobs. He was always respectful and fair, and I especially lived his sense of humour. My condolences to his family.

  38. I’ve been lucky enough to cross paths with Rudi over the years at various events (work and personal) and I always came away from our conversations thinking he was one of this industry’s best. A true gentleman and an example to all. You will be top of mind as I start a new chapter in my career this year. We will miss you dearly. All my love and best wishes to your family.

  39. My name is Norman F. Louw a cousin of Rudi. As family we were close as from an early age until we all started our careers. My father Ernest A. F. Louw loved his sister Katie very much and also Rudi’s Dad, Johan Rousseau. They spent holidays and weekends together in various scenic places in the Cape. Rudi was a “laatlammetjie” and was spoiled by family and friends. This handsome blond boy was what my aunt Katie waited for, for years. Rudi the times we spent together with “Keppies” your brother; Johnny, Ernie, Leon, Judy your cousins was memorable. Rest in peace my dear cousin until your family and friends meet again in God’s heavenly garden. There you are now meeting love ones, there you are now resting in peace and harmony, waiting in anticipation for more love ones to join you one day to take part in God’s banquet. MHDSRIP

  40. Ah, my old friend. Lover of wide open spaces and the sea, Ernest Hemingway and co, photography, good food and wine, bonhomie, films (of course), dogs, photography, family and friends, working and playing hard. Sociable yet reclusive, jovial and at times melancholy (he once wrote poetry, did you know?)
Thanks for the road trips, the adventures, the laughs and the memories, the good times as well as the hangovers. I will treasure them all.

“Time is the least thing we have of” – Ernest Hemingway

  41. Tomorrow at 11 we as a family will say goodbye to our beloved Rudi. This will be the hardest thing to do but we all know that Rudi is in a save place with our dad Johan Rossouw who passed away a long time ago. Please keep us in your prayers as this will be our final goodbye to him as a family. We can see that you all respected him for who and what he was. We will miss this guy big time. Thanks for all the beautiful messages and support during this time. Rudi’s Family!!

  42. dear Rudi
such a honour to have the opportunity to meet you and spend some time together, it was always my favorite and I will preserve and cherish these memories forever…

  43. My deepest condolences go out to Rudi’s Family. Don’t really know what to say, in a bit of shock. I’m glad to have had the honor of working with Rudi, he was a great guy and made the working environment a pleasure to be in from the 1st day I started at stillking to the day I left… You will surely be missed Rudi.

  44. So sad to lose one of the truly good guys far too early. You will be missed by everyone whose life you touched even in the smallest way. One of the nicest people I’ve ever had the good fortune to meet.

  45. Every time I worked with Rudi in Cape Town, it was always a joy. He made my shoots easier to deal with. He was a fantastic, gentle soul who I will miss a great deal. I still can’t believe that he’s no longer with us but I’m sure he’s looking down and smiling, as he always did. Sleep well Rudi. We will never forget you…

  46. 10 days have passed my friend and i have been thinking of you, your family and your stillking family every single day – you were a man of few words and a heart bigger than most – RIP my friend and gonna have a pint for you on Saturday – lots of love to you as i know you are looking out for all of us

  47. You will be missed by so many and clearly for long to come. A good man is hard to find… especially within this crazy business and crazy world at large. I was lucky to have crossed your path, albeit too briefly now. My deepest sympathies to your family, loved ones, and your vast extended family. xx

  48. Rudi with producer Malachy McAnney and director John Hillcoat checking a weather app …

  49. A deep sense of loss of such a wonderful person, I still cannot believe it and words will never be enough, but I know the world is not the same. You were a great ally and friend, who made everyone feel part of the team. Your sense of humour was infectious and there was always lots of laughter, whatever the circumstances. You have left us too soon. Rest in Peace, my dear friend, until we meet again. I know you are watching over them but my deepest condolences to Leigh, Hannah and Matthew. xx

  50. RIP Rudi – my sincere and deepest condolences to Leigh, Hannah and Matthew and all the family. I wish you strength and light …

  51. Devastated to hear about Rudi, a humble and true gentleman. Although not in Rudi’s league, we shared a similar interest in cycling and had many a conversation about it. Our deepest condolences and sympathies to Leigh and the family, we wish you all the strength and love.

  52. Rudi. Trustworthy and trusting. A man of integrity.
He adored Hannah who he affectionately called Fish along with so many other names of endearment for her. Hannah loves Rudi’s 80’s car music by Blondie and Twisted Sister. She knows some of his choice, sharp and funny sayings for when drivers acted irresponsibily infront of him on the road. I know Rudi loved weekends away with Leigh and Hannah. Tuesday date nights with Leigh. Reading, cycling, coffee, beer, chilli and chocolate. I know this because over the last 5 years Hannah has told me so.
Rudi living his life with integrity has had such a profound positive affect on Hannah and a man cannot leave a greater legacy than that.
My love and heartfelt condolences to Leigh, Hannah and Matt. Jaine xx

  54. Dear Rudi it was an honour to meet you !
There are no words to comfort your loved ones and soothe the pain of absence. Rudi continues to live within us. We never lose what is eternal.
” I’ll look for you in skies painted turquoise with the day. In stars that make the heavens shine, in the evening breeze that cools the day, in the waves that rush to meet the feet and in the air that dries the tears from our cheeks. ”

  55. Still can’t believe you’re gone Rudes. I don’t really have the words to express my sadness, so instead I’m raising a glass for you today and thinking about the good times. I’m going to miss you so much. Rest in Peace my dear friend. Leigh, Matthew and Hannah, my thoughts are with you. He really was one in a million. Xx

  56. Dear Rudi
I am so blessed and grateful to have know you all these years – yours was a friendship I valued deeply and will always honour – My thoughts and deep sympathy go to the family you loved so very much – I always delighted in how you ‘glowed’ when you spoke of them – Leigh, Hannah and Mathew. Go well and in peace and love dear friend

  57. Rudi was one of those people you warmed to instantly and in my case wish I could have spent more time with and have known better. Our paths only occasionally crossed and I was always left thinking what a nice guy he seemed to be. Seems I wasn’t wrong. Condolescenses to all.

  58. A lovely person gone too soon, my heartfelt condolences to all of Rudi’s family and friends. Although we a little contact over the years after the 80’s, I will never forget our shared love of Dire Straits, Making Movies. and that he did, so well.

  59. I am going to bloody miss you mate. Whenever I feel sorry for myself, I think of the family you spoke so warmly of and cannot comprehend the loss. You are not the sort of person this is supposed to happen to. You are careful, thoughtful, considerate and kind. A quietly naughty sense of humour, witty and sarcastic in equal measure but never, ever with so much as a hint of malice. You will always be my trusted friend.
